Dr. Niel Rasmussen is a board-certified family medicine physician dedicated to providing comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages in Headland, Alabama, and the surrounding Wiregrass communities. He focuses on preventive care, chronic disease management, wellness promotion, and building long-term relationships that help patients achieve better health at every stage of life. He serves on the medical staff at Southeast Health and is committed to delivering patient-centered care tailored to each individual’s needs.

Dr. Rasmussen is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and maintains active memberships in several leading medical organizations. Patients appreciate his commitment to personalized care, preventive medicine, and helping families navigate their healthcare needs through every stage of life.

Originally from Vincent, Alabama, Dr. Rasmussen earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Birmingham-Southern College in 1991 before graduating with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in 1996. While at UAB, he was elected to both the Pathology Honor Society and the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

He completed his residency training at the Medical Center East Family Practice Residency in Birmingham, Alabama, where he served as chief resident and gained valuable experience in family medicine and urgent care clinics throughout the Birmingham area.

Dr. Rasmussen began his medical career at Chilton Family Medicine in Clanton, Alabama. In 2002, he and his family relocated to Headland, where he assumed the medical practice of the late Dr. Edwin Morriss Jr., continuing a long-standing tradition of providing high-quality healthcare to the Headland community.

Throughout his career, Dr. Rasmussen has remained committed to professional excellence and lifelong learning. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and has received the Physician’s Recognition Award from both the American Medical Association and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

Dr. Rasmussen and his wife, Amy, have three adult daughters. They are active members of First Baptist Church of Headland and enjoy spending time with family, participating in church activities, visiting their daughters, and staying active through walking and hiking.
